Brown sugar is a sucrose-based, moist sweetener (3-7% molasses) produced by combining refined white sugar with molasses, offering a distinct caramel flavor and brown color. While slightly richer in minerals like calcium, potassium, and iron than white sugar, it offers no significant health benefits. It is commonly used in baking and is available in light and dark varieties.

Key Details About Brown Sugar:
    • Composition & Types: Contains 95% sucrose and 3-7% molasses. Dark brown sugar has more molasses than light brown.
    • Production: Typically made by adding molasses back to refined white sugar crystals, though it can be produced naturally

  • Nutritional Impact: Nutritionally, it is very similar to white sugar; both are considered added sugars and should be consumed in moderation.
  • Storage: Due to its moisture content, it tends to clump and should be stored in an airtight container to prevent drying.
